Program Notes
re: pool is the first experiment in a very simple conceit: the first half of the piece is recorded,
and the second half of the piece is accompanied by the playback of this recording in reverse, creating
a symmetrical or palindromic structure. This iteration is an initial exploration of the formal constraints
imposed by this structure, featuring loosely-parameterized improvisation.
The piece was developed with Jules Evens, who played piano
on the premier performance
at CalArts in Valencia, California on February 27th, 2024.
