Program Notes
Bearing was written for string orchestra in 2018 and depicts the themes in my life at the time of writing. I chose the title Bearing for its ability to capture so many of these themes in a single word. It is to carry, to support; it is to endure; it is one’s direction and way of being. Such were the subjects that weighed most heavily upon me while writing this piece, and—perhaps without conscious intention— it was in light of these that the work was created.
